The Anacostia Watershed through Children's Eyes

An Urban Adventure Squad project funded by:
A 2024 Community Stormwater Solutions grant
from
the DC Department of Energy and Environment
and the Chesapeake Bay Trust

Welcome to our digital gallery!

The Anacostia Watershed through Children's Eyes is a grant-funded project that took place during three Urban Adventure Squad programs:
  1. UAS summer program Aug. 5-9, "Planting Seeds of Action in Your Urban Ecosystem," at the U.S. National Arboretum/Washington Youth Garden
  2. UAS summer program Aug. 12-16, "Artists Take Action: Protecting Your Urban Ecosystem," at the U.S. National Arboretum/Washington Youth Garden
  3. UAS special program in January 2025 with Ms. Johnson's and Ms. Wallen's 2nd grade classes at C.W. Harris Elementary School in Ward 7.

Michaye McIlwain is a D.C.-based photographer, videographer, and digital creator who owns Chaye Butter Studios. Michaye visited Urban Adventure Squad programs as a guest educator to teach students about the basics of framing your shot, considering your light source, and identifying your subject. Ten student photos were selected to be displayed at Project Create Arts Center. You can see those images below.
