Urban Adventure Squad/Urban Learning and Teaching Center (UAS) is a D.C.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit education organization. We support K-8 schools and school communities with neighborhood-based, hands-on learning programs that focus on the outdoors. We offer full-day programs during out-of-school time, like on professional development days and federal holidays, as well as during school breaks. We also partner with schools and school communities to connect students to their neighborhoods with curriculum-aligned activities relating to science, history, math, art, engineering, and writing, and to train teachers in outdoor learning.

OUTDOOR MASKS OPTIONAL FOR UAS-hosted PROGRAMS
Masks are optional--outdoors only--for programs that we host. We will remain fully masked during the indoor portions of our programs, with no exceptions. We request that all participants wear a KN95 or surgical mask for all indoor time. The Squad will provide these to any child who doesn’t have them. We expect that we will continue to remain masked indoors through the summer, and that, unless local and state guidance on outdoor masking changes, we will continue to make masks optional when we are outdoors.
*UAS will abide by the decisions of schools and community organizations who host our programs. For example, if a school requires masks outdoors, we will wear masks outdoors.

GUIDE TO OUTDOOR LEARNING Are you an educator, administrator, or parent interested in outdoor learning but aren't sure how to get started? Check out our Guide to Outdoor Learning.

DID YOU KNOW? Every Squad program includes between 1 and 4 miles of walking. We might take an urban hike through neighborhoods or a trail hike through the woods, but we are moving as we learn. DC is our classroom!
