Fridays with
Stokes
East End

Outdoor learning with Urban Adventure Squad at Stokes East End!
Urban Adventure Squad (UAS) is a D.C.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit education organization. We support K-8 schools and school communities with neighborhood-based, hands-on learning programs that focus on the outdoors.
Is your 2nd or 3rd grade scholar in the afterschool program at Stokes East End?
Then they'll be joining Urban Adventure Squad for our third year of FREE Friday afterschool adventures! These outdoor learning programs are made possible thanks to a grant partnership and funding from D.C. Mayor’s Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST).

These are fully-masked, outdoor learning programs. If the weather is dangerously cold, wet, or windy, we'll have to shorten or cancel our program and your scholars will return indoors with their afterschool teachers. Please be sure your scholars are dressed for the weather, whether that's chilly, rainy, or warm. UAS educators are well stocked with hand warmers, gloves, hats, ponchos, and umbrellas thanks to generous donors who purchase these items from our amazon wish list.

We'll alternate Fridays, leading 2nd grade on an outdoor learning adventure, then 3rd grade the next week we're available to come. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for our tentative schedule of adventures.

Urban Adventure Squad must report data on registration and attendance to meet the grant requirements, so although you're already registered with Stokes School for the afterschool program, please sign up with UAS:
Registration means creating an account or logging into a preexisting account in our system, powered by UltraCamp. Once you're logged in and select Make a Reservation, you'll see the Stokes East End series clearly labeled. Select "Stokes East End Fridays with Urban Adventure Squad," complete the registration process, and you're all set!

Now that we're in a new calendar year, our registration system asks for your student's grade "in fall of 2022." This is because UltraCamp is mainly meant for summer camps, not year-round programs like ours. Summer camp registration generally goes by the "rising" grade, or the student's grade in fall of the next school year. When asked for your child's grade in fall of 2022, you would (for example) select 3rd grade for your current 2nd grade student. This would let the system know that your student is currently in 2nd grade and UltraCamp will automatically graduate them in June to the next grade level.
