The Creative Minds community garden and outdoor classroom is growing! To encourage students to be great garden stewards, we came up with a simple set of steps to follow to help care for this urban oasis whenever they visit. At the end of the page, you'll find a .pdf version for easy printing at school or at home.

Observe. How has the garden has changed since you were last here?

Are weeds growing? If you're not sure it's a weed, leave it there. If you're sure it's a weed, you may gently remove it, placing it in the big paper bag.

Soil check: dry or moist? If it's dry, ask a teacher if you can water. Please water down near the soil and keep the leaves dry.

Investigate! Have you gently rubbed the herb leaves to smell the oils they release? Do you see any broken signs or trash? Help care for your space by getting to know what’s in your garden.

Share what you saw or did in your garden with a friend or family member later today.

Remember: We only dig in the “Digging Zone.” This garden is a shared project with the whole CMI community and all community members should care for it responsibly.

Definitions of oasis, from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

1) a fertile or green area in an arid region (such as a desert);
2) something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast.
