Are you a high school student who would like to earn service learning hours with Urban Adventure Squad?
We welcome high school volunteers throughout the year and are currently accepting volunteer registration for our summer programs!
We welcome high school volunteers throughout the year and are currently accepting volunteer registration for our summer programs!
Please log into your UltraCamp account and register before May 1st.
*If your family doesn't have an UltraCamp account, please ask your parent or guardian to create one. An adult's name and contact information should be the Primary Contact and accountholder and you should be listed as a child of the Primary Contact on the account. UltraCamp is our registration system and is how we access all of your emergency contact, allergy, and other important information.
You can volunteer for as many or as few days as you'd like. Our week-long programs are listed here, but there are other opportunities in July. Read the information below for more details.
June 24-28 at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
"Jr. Ranger Adventure Squad: Birds and Bats in Our Neighborhood"
August 5-9 at Washington Youth Garden
"Planting Seeds of Action in Your Urban Ecosystem"
August 12-16 at Washington Youth Garden
"Artists Take Action: Protecting Your Urban Ecosystem"
August 19-23 at Temple Micah
"Back to School Blast! Recycled Materials Carnival"
To enhance your engagement and leadership skills, this year we're asking high school volunteers to develop and lead 1-2 activities during each week that you're volunteering. These activities should last about 30 mins and can be a craft, skill, game, or science experiment. The activity can directly relate to the week's topic or simply be something you're already passionate about and love. Squad members look up to you and love to learn from you. This is your chance to share your expertise!
All registered high school volunteers will receive an email in early May with more information about this and let you know the due date--which will likely be later in May. That gives the UAS team time to review your activities, ask for any edits, find the right place to fit them into the flow of the week, and purchase your supplies. The research and development time you spend creating the activities should be included in the SSL hours you earn.
Scheduling note for July: We don't have week-long programs during the month of July because we're partnering with two different elementary schools to lead outdoor learning adventures during their summer programs. We will spend two days a week at each school leading two 90-minute adventures per day. One school is in Tenleytown and the other is in Manor Park. If you'd like to volunteer with us for any of these programs, let's chat.
